This was the last time the New Riders opened for the Dead.
The Dead played 4 sets and an encore, including an acoustic opening set with Joan Baez. John Cipollina sat in with the Dead during third set. The show is often cited as one of the best Dead shows of all time.
This was an especially historic evening as Garcia and Mountain Girl were married backstage.
Bill Graham helped ring in the New Year by flying over the crowd riding a giant joint at midnight!
