One of the most influential and successful rock bands in history, Led Zeppelin was formed in England in 1968 around ex-Yardbirds guitarist Jimmy Page, vocalist Robert Plant, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John "Bonzo" Bonham. They have more than 300 million records, all their original studio albums reaching the Top 10, six of them number ones. They are one of the main influences of heavy metal, although their subsequent records featured more adventurous influences such as folk and middle-eastern music. "Stairway to Heaven" became the most requested and most-played song on album-oriented FM radio, and its album "Led Zeppelin IV" sold over 32 million copies.
