Artist Bio

Born in New York City in 1949, Carr grew up in Mississippi during the 1950's and early 1960's. Being of Jewish descent, he experienced racial prejudice firsthand. He now lives and works in East Oakland where he finds the cultural diversity of his neighborhood to be a source of inspiration.

Carr received his formal training at the Memphis Art Academy, California College of Arts and Crafts, and the San Francisco Art Institute. He is a painter. His early works were painted in goache and concentrated watercolor inks. For the last ten years he has worked exclusively in oil.

Carr's exhibitions include: "Wild Paint" at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rental Gallery, San Francisco Art Institute's San Francisco Art Festival, Crocker Museum's Crocker-Kingsley Exhibition, Pro Arts Gallery's Regional Canvas Show and Pro Arts Annual, the Berkeley Art Center Annual, Gallery 44, and "Jeff Carr" at the Thomas-Wilson Gallery.
